"Старые" биверятники, очевидно, помнят, как на выставках лет пять-десять назад в нашу сторону раздавались крики, что мы выставляем дворняг. Очень многие йоркширисты до сих пор считают, что биверы - это результат скрещивания то ли мальтезе с йорком, то ли ши-тцу с йорком. В США существует версия, что трехцветные щенки получились в результате инбридинга на английского кобеля Streamglen Shaun и носителем гена белой пятнистости был Sreamglen Richard (отец Darling и Fru-Fru).
На сайте немецкого клуба IBA опубликовано исследование, которое опровергает эту версию.
Предлагаю форуму высказать свое мнение.

BIEWER YORKSHIRE TERRIER
The White Spotting Gene of the Yorkshire Terrier Breed
How did the offspring of purebred Yorkshire Terriers inherit the white spotting gene? Where did
it happen? Who were the first gene carriers? This article was written for the International
Biewer Association e.V. and is dedicated to answering these questions.
This study was extremely necessary to conduct, since until now there was the question of
whether the Biewer family involved, for example, Maltese in breeding. Unjustified rumors have
been continually spread that Biewer Yorkshire Terriers originate in England from a cross of
Yorkie with Maltese, that occasionally occurred in the Streamglen kennel. In addition, such a
statement causes extreme aversion, indignation and protests by the British, who are proud of
their pure Yorkshire Terrier breed. Let us start the examination in England.
English dogs from the Streamglen kennel
We have the following original data, which is necessary to consider:
❏ Mr. Biewer had a lot of dogs.
❏ He was focused on the English bloodlines in breeding.
❏ Before the first tricolor puppy was born, all matings were made only in order to gain a
super Yorkshire Terrier.
❏ The information that the first carrier of the white spotting gene was the male dog
Streamglen Shaun came from America after the appearance of Biewers in Germany.
❏ In the pedigrees of some of the first Biewers, there are dogs with unknown origins.
In the mid 1980s Werner Biewer began his breeding activities with a foundation of dogs from
the English kennel Streamglen. He bought a male dog, Streamglen Richard, who was born in
1972, and was a descendent of the famous male dog, Streamglen Shaun. After Richard, he
acquired several other dogs for breeding, who were descendents of Shaun as well.
Afterwards, he mated all of his own Yorkshire Terriers with these descendants. Breeding by
Werner Biewer involved at least ten of them: Vadelle Olivia, Streamglen Flora, Streamglen
Mary Monarch, Streamglen Enchantress, Streamglen Richard, Vadelle Dawn Princess and
other dogs, whose origins are unknown, but who probably were the descendents of Schaun
as well: Streamglen Clarissa, Streamglen Marion, Streamglen Felicity, Streamglen Maytime.
Therefore, quite close inbreeding occurred, where Shaun and his ancestors were involved
many times.
Why did Werner Biewer so persistently buy dogs from this kennel and use them in breeding,
rather than from any other leading kennel or kennels? This is quite simply explained by the
fact that, at the time, this English kennel was considered to be one of the best, the kennel of
champions. Werner Biewer, as any other passionate person, tried to reach the peak of
perfection with his dogs. Using inbreeding, he strived to produce the perfect Yorkshire Terrier.
In this endeavour, he succeeded to a large extent. In the Von Friedheck kennel, known for the
show results of its dogs, emerged champions with elite English blood. For instance, Darling
von Friedheck’s father, male dog Muccu von Friedheck, had many champion titles. In addition,
the grandmother of the female dogs Fru Fru von Friedheck and Dinie von Friedheck, Graziella
von Friedheck, also received world champion titles in 1976 and 1977, while Darling von
Friedheck and Fru Fru von Friedheck were young champions themselves.
Thus, breeding the dogs of the best English bloodlines and using close inbreeding,
Werner Biewer greatly improved the stock of his own dogs. Accordingly, the first
Biewers were the descendents of champions.
There is a lot of information on American Biewer breeder websites about the origins of tricolor
dogs from Werner Biewer in the Streamglen kennel in England. There were dogs of the
Maltese breed in this kennel as well. Some people assume that crossbreeding could take
place. However, we were surprised by the fact that white spots were never revealed during ten
years of usage in breeding of a large number of descendants of Shaun. In spite of that, users
of American forums and consequently, users of the European ones, made the statement that
Streamglen Shaun was the carrier of the white spotting gene. This is confirmed by the fact
that one of Streamglen Shaun’s daughters, Streamglen Milady, born in 1973 and sold to a
breeder in America, was the mother of tricolor Yorkshire Terriers in the US already in 1976, in
other words, long before (about 8 years!) the first Biewers were born in Germany. However,
these tricolor dogs were neither used for breeding nor in shows. In addition, recent information
has appeared, that in the US, litters of Yorkshire Terriers had tricolor puppies repeatedly and
much earlier than in Germany. Furthermore, this continues to this day. Tricolor puppies were
simply registered as having the standard colors. The explanation is quite logical. Breeders
tried to protect the reputation of their kennels. In any case, the work for the recognition of
Biewers is being performed in the United States right now.
Let us go back to Werner Biewer’s kennel. Streamglen Richard was bought by him and
involved in breeding immediately. This happened two years before Streamglen Milady could
give birth to tricolor puppies in the US. More than likely, if Werner Biewer had found out about
American tricolor offspring of Streamglen Milady, he would not have considered it to be a
promising development for his breeding activity. In the German breeder language there is a
special term for such phenomena: “Fehlfarbe” or “Farbfehler”, which describes a color defect
of the coat, which is extremely undesired by breeders.
Therefore, according to the American version, Biewers have their origins in England and
Streamglen Shaun is assumed to be the first known Yorkshire Terrier, who was the carrier of
the white spotting gene. Trying to prove this statement we analyzed the pedigrees of the first
Biewers and their Yorkshire Terrier ancestors. Remarkably, very close inbreeding occurred. In
the tables below you can see the inbreeding.

All three female dogs had the same clearly visible inbreeding to the following line: Streamglen
Richard - Streamglen Robin Hood - Streamglen Shaun - Blue Flash of Streamglen.
It seems as if the truth is lying on the surface. Applying such close inbreeding, Werner Biewer
received his tricolor dogs from the Streamglen bloodlines, but let us analyze this inbreeding
line: Streamglen Shaun - Streamglen Robin Hood - Streamglen Richard. A lot of dogs were
produced with this inbreeding.
Inbreeding to Streamglen Richard (2 - 2) included not only above-mentioned Darling von
Friedheck and the mothers of his tricolor puppies, but also their littermates and many other
dogs as well. All dogs inbred to him were of the standard color. Although, according to
Mendel's law, if Streamglen Richard had been a carrier of the white spotting gene, 25% of the
offspring would have been tricolored. At least one tricolor dog would appear among dozens of
puppies. Therefore, Streamglen Richard could not be a carrier of the white spotting gene. This
is quite obvious. He was transported to Germany as an adult dog. According to data from the
catalog of the London dog show in 1974, Streamglen Richard was shown in London at the
age of 16 months by his breeders Mr. and Mrs. Waldram. This has also been confirmed by the
the British magazine “Our Dogs” from 1980. Accordingly, Streamglen Richard had produced a
few litters in England before leaving for Germany. But where are his tricolor descendants in
England? They simply do not exist. The owners of the Streamglen kennel stopped their
breeding activity in 1991. This was 6 years after the appearance of the tricolor puppies in
Germany. Probably, they were aware of the fact that some tricolor dogs appeared in the Von
Friedheck kennel, since they had sold a lot of Yorkshire Terriers to the Von Friedheck kennel.
It seems that they knew this had no connection to them, which is quite possible.
We can also exclude Streamglen Robin Hood due to the information about four litters which
were inbred to him (2 - 2). Two litters were produced in the Von Friedheck kennel. However,
all of his descendents had the standard colors. Therefore, he could not be a carrier of the
white spotting gene as well.
But how could the white spotting gene be transferred from Streamglen Shaun to his tricolor
descendants then? We can also take a look at the tables below in order to clarify this. Bold
names show the possible ways of inheritance of the white spotting gene from Shaun to the
parents of the first Biewers.

Puppies of Darling and Daisy von Friedheck had no inbreeding to Streamglen Rob Roy, but
they were inbred to Streamglen Shaun (5,5,5 - 5,5,4) and Larry von der Burg Lohenhof (4 - 5).
Provided that Streamglen Marion was an offspring of Streamglen Shaun, then her offspring
Nanuck and No No von Friedheck could inherit the white spotting gene due to inbreeding to
Streamglen Shaun. The offspring from Darling and Nanuck von Friedheck were inbred to Larry
(4 - 5) and the offspring from Darling and No No von Friedheck were inbred to Larry (4 - 4) as
well.
We can notice the presence of Streamglen Shaun’s offspring, the male dog Streamglen Rob
Roy, in the pedigree of Darling von Friedheck and in the pedigrees of two mothers of tricolor
puppies, Dinie and Fru Fru von Friedheck. Streamglen Rob Roy is absent in the pedigrees of
other mothers. In this scenario, in order to get tricolor puppies, it was necessary to have three

Streamglen Marion Origins unknown (probably an offspring of
Streamglen Shaun)
or four of Shaun’s offspring carrying the white spotting gene. In other words, if Streamglen
Shaun had been a carrier of the white spotting gene, then Nanuck and No No von Friedheck
could have received this gene through Streamglen Marion. This is only an assumption, since
Streamglen Marion is of unknown origins. There is no other way to obtain this gene. Daisy von
Friedheck inherited it through Vadelle Olivia and Dinie von Friedheck inherited it through the
offpsring of Vadelle Nikini, or through Streamglen Rob Roy. Fru Fru and Darling von Friedheck
inherited it through Streamglen Rob Roy. There is no other way. Otherwise, the tricolor
puppies could not have been born where they were born. Logically, if Shaun had been a
carrier, then the tricolor puppy Schneefloeckchen von Friedheck was supposed to appear 10
years earlier and not in Germany, but in England, where there was a much larger number of
Streamglen Shaun’s descendents than in the Von Friedheck kennel.
Therefore, neither Streamglen Shaun nor his offspring were carrying the white spotting
gene, since the inbreeding consistently produced puppies of the standard colors.
The Austrian Trace
In addition to the English dogs, the breeding in Von Friedheck kennel involved dogs with
Austrian origins from the Von der Burg Lohenhof kennel.
On the 29th of September 1969, Ms. Marx, the breeder from the Von der Burg Lohenhof
kennel in Austria, received whelps from an unknown female dog, Sweetie Of Progresso,
whose photo we do not have nowadays. However, we know that she came from the English
kennel Of Progresso. This was a well-known kennel at that time, which produced world
champions, whose names can still be found in the pedigrees of some Yorkshire Terriers. The
litter had 6 puppies: male dogs Larry, Landy and Lukki von der Burg Lohenhof and female
dogs Linde, Lory and Lyssi von der Burg Lohenhof. One of the puppies was purchased by
Werner Biewer and became a stud dog in the Von Friedheck kennel. The name of the puppy
was Larry von der Burg Lohenhof.
In Werner Biewer’s later breeding, the female dogs Ania, Assya and Bonny Von Friedheck
were produced by the male dog Larry von der Burg Lohenhof and a female dog Quirly von der
Burg Lohenhof. The pedigrees of tricolor Yorkies include Ania and Bonny. Nevertheless,
descendants of Assya do not seem to be involved in obtaining tricolor puppies.
Larry von der Burg Lohenhof and the English female dog Streamglen Ehchantress also
produced the female champion, Graziella von Friedheck. She can be found in the pedigrees of
the first Biewers.
Thus, the ancestors of the first Biewer Yorkshire Terriers had three offspring (including
Graziella von Friedheck) of the Austrian male dog Larry von der Burg Lohenhof. Due to a
huge number of English dogs and close inbreeding of English bloodlines, these dogs stayed
practically invisible. Except for the world champion Graziella von Friedheck. But to tell you the
truth, the focus on her has not been drawn by her father, but by the famous English ancestry
in the maternal line.
Let us go back to the tables with inbreeding of the parents of the first tricolor Yorkshire
Terriers. The only dog that was inbred to Larry (3 - 3) was the female dog Fru Fru von
Friedheck. She was carrying the white spotting gene. However, she received it only from one
of her parents and consequently had the standard colors.
All other dogs who had the standard colors and were bringing tricolor puppies to the world,
without exception, had Larry von der Burg Lohenhof in their pedigrees for one time only. This
dog can be traced even when we deal with dogs with incomplete pedigrees. Let us take a look
at the connection between the parents of the first Biewers and Larry von der Burg Lohenhof:
❏ Darling von Friedheck: ( - 3) Larry von der Burg Lohenhof.
❏ Dinie von Friedheck: (3 - ) Larry von der Burg Lohenhof.
❏ Daisy von Friedheck: (4 - ) Larry von der Burg Lohenhof.
❏ Nanuck von Friedheck: ( - 4) Larry von der Burg Lohenhof.
❏ No No von Friedheck: ( - 3) Larry von der Burg Lohenhof.
Nanuck von Friedheck, born in 1982, and No No von Friedheck, born in 1977, were both
mating partners of Darling von Friedheck and had incomplete pedigrees. They also were the
mothers of Darling von Friedheck’s offspring, a female dog Schneeanemone von Friedheck
and a male dog Schneemann von Friedheck respectively.
I would like also to draw your attention to the male dog with standard colors that was actively
involved in breeding by Werner Biewer along with Darling von Friedheck. This dog was Quardi
von Friedheck, born in 1977. There were eight litters produced by this male dog and seven
different mating partners. All puppies had the standard colors. Nonetheless, at least four of
them were ancestors of the first Biewers. These were Darling von Friedheck’s mating
partners: Fru Fru, Ilona and Dinie von Friedheck and a male dog, U-Bubu von Friedheck. In
the third generation Quardi von Friedhech also had Larry von der Burg Lohenhof ( 3 - ) among
his ancestors.
The abovementioned information leads to the following inferences:
❏ Larry was present for one single time in the pedigrees of all paratnts of the first Biewer
Yorkshire Terriers, except for Fru Fru von Friedheck, who was inbred to him.
❏ All tricolor puppies received the white spotting gene in the dominant state immediately
after the according inbreeding to Larry.
❏ Larry is the only one credible contender to be the first identified carrier of the white
spotting gene and the splitter of the Yorkshire Terrier breed.
To summarize, we can say that we have found something phenomenal. In 1984 the first
tricolor puppies had a little-known dog in both parental lines. This dog was Larry von
der Burg Lohenhof, who was born in 1969 and was the first known carrier of the white
spotting gene. Suddenly, 15 years after his birth, the recessive white spotting gene
surfaced in his offspring due to occasional inbreeding.
This brochure could be considered completed. However:
❏ Larry had 5 littermates.
❏ There is no information whether his parents had other litters.
❏ The fate of his littermates is unknown.
It is not excluded that the Larry’s littermates, who could have been carriers of the white
spotting gene as well, were transported to America. The version with the appearance of the
first tricolor Yorkshire Terriers in America has not been studied yet.

Ирина,хорошо бы ещё и с переводом на русский.
Но я правильно поняла,что родоначальники всё-таки Йорки?

Наш клуб имеет важную цель: добиться признания породы Бивер йоркшир терьер всеми кинологическими клубами мира. Мы начали свою деятельность с анализа родословных первых бивер йоркшир терьеров.

Перед публикацией статью читали специалисты в области биологии и генетики. Таким образом, изложенная в ней информация заслуживает доверия. Если у кого-то из читателей есть сомнения, предлагаем сделать подобный анализ самостоятельно.
Результаты анализа, изложенного в статье, имеют высокую степень соответствия генетическим исследованиям, которые проводят в нескольких лабораториях США (это не только тесты Марса). Фиксируется отличие абсолютного большинства бивер йоркшир терьеров (биверов, бивер терьеров) от йоркширских терьеров только наличием в определенной хромосоме гена, отвечающего за белый цвет. Это заметно без генетических изысканий. Это говорит о чистоте породы и о том, что ген белой пятнистости либо попал в породу очень-очень давно, либо присутствовал в ней всегда, так как все остальные признаки йорков и биверов идентичны.


Анализ родословных первых бивер йоркшир терьеров.
Выводы:
Господин Вёрнер Бивер не делал фальсификаций. Никаких противоречий в появлении первых трехцветных щенков нет. Все предки первых Бивер йоркшир терьеров были чистокровными йорками.
Streamglen Shaun и его потомки не являлись носителями гена белой пятнистости. Инбридинги на этих собак стабильно давали потомство окраса steel and tan. ]
Белый цвет первым бивер йоркам достался от кобеля австрийского происхождения Larry von der Burg Lohenhof 1969 года рождения и проявился вследствие инбридинга.


Обоснование выводов:
Все родители первых бивер йоркшир терьеров имели инбридинг на Streamglen Shaun, Streamglen Richard и многих других собак. Все без исключения родители первых бивер йоркшир терьеров и их однопометники (известно около 25 собак) имели традиционный цвет йоркширского терьера steel and tan. Но по закону Менделя 25% из них должны были быть биверами. Однако этого не было. Таким образом, инбридинг на Streamglen Shaun и Streamglen Richard для получения трехцветных щенков не дает результатов. Как следствие, эти собаки не являются носителями гена белой пятнистости.

Мы видим, что несмотря на очень близкий инбридинг на английских собак все родители первых биверов имеют традиционный цвет.


2. Streamglen Shaun и Streamglen Richard имели очень большое число потомков. Они имели титулы, жили в очень больших питомниках, их щенки были популярны и дорого стоили. Потомки этих собак есть во всех странах. Однако только в Германии в одном питомнике были рождены трехцветные щенки. Они отличаются от ста других потомков Streamglen Shaun и Streamglen Richard наличием в родословных кобеля Larry von der Burg Lohenhof.

Родители первых бивер йоркшир терьеров имели Larry von der Burg Lohenhof в третьем-четвертом колене: :

Из вышесказанного закономерно следует, что:
- кобель Larry von der Burg Lohenhof в единственном числе присутствовал в родословных всех родителей первых бивер йорков (за исключением Fru Fru, которая была на него инбредна). У всех трехцветных щенков одновременно с появлением инбридинга на этого кобеля проявился в доминантном состоянии ген белой пятнистости.
- не существует другой собаки, на которую параллельно с Larry могли бы быть впервые инбредны щенки, у которых опять-таки впервые возникло внешнее проявление гена белой пятнистости. То есть щенки стали гетерозиготны по признаку одновременно с удвоением Larry и только Larry в их родословных.
Larry является единственным достоверным претендентом на звание первого выявленного носителя гена белой пятнистости – Spalter. Было ли это мутацией, или кто-то из родителей щенков передал ему эту наследственность, установить, скорее всего, уже не удастся…

Таким образом мы видим почти невероятное. В 1984 году рождаются щенки, инбредные в четвертом-пятом коленах на малоизвестную собаку 1969 года рождения. Через 15 лет после рождения Larry гулящий в его потомках рецессивный ген белой пятнистости выходит на поверхность.
